Markup Calculator

Markup is the percentage added to the cost of a product to set its selling price. It differs from margin, which is profit as a share of the selling price.

How to use the Markup Calculator

  1. Enter your cost.
  2. Enter the markup %.
  3. Read price, profit and margin.

How it works

Selling price = Cost × (1 + Markup%/100); Profit = Price − Cost; Margin = Profit ÷ Price.

Worked example

Cost 600 with 50% markup: price 900, profit 300, margin 33.3%.

Good to know

Markup is based on cost; margin is based on price, so a 50% markup is only a 33.3% margin.

Use it to price products consistently.

Cover overheads and tax in your markup, not just the product cost.

Frequently asked questions
