Fixed Deposit (FD) Calculator

A fixed deposit (term deposit) locks a lump sum with a bank for a set period at a set rate. This calculator shows what it grows to at maturity.

How to use the Fixed Deposit (FD) Calculator

  1. Enter the deposit amount and interest rate.
  2. Enter the tenure and compounding frequency.
  3. Read maturity value and interest.

How it works

Maturity = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P is the deposit, r the annual rate, n compounding periods per year and t years. Effective annual yield = (1 + r/n)^n − 1.

Worked example

500,000 at 7% compounded quarterly for 5 years matures at about 707,500, earning roughly 207,500 of interest.

Good to know

Banks usually compound quarterly; check your deposit terms.

Interest may be taxable; this estimate is pre-tax.
