Sales Tax Calculator

Sales tax is charged at the point of sale, often as a state rate plus local rates. Adding the rates gives the combined rate that applies to the purchase.

How to use the Sales Tax Calculator

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Enter state and local rates.
  3. Choose add or remove tax.

How it works

Combined rate = state + local. Add tax: Total = Price × (1 + rate/100). Remove tax: Price = Total ÷ (1 + rate/100).

Worked example

250 at 6.25% state plus 2% local (8.25%): tax 20.63, total 270.63.
